The 12,000 Barrels Per Day (BPD) Amakpe Refinery is being implemented in 2 phases, with Phase 1 – 6000BPD Refinery Plant estimated to cost about $36.4 million and scheduled to start production by October 2008. The Refinery is being configured to process Qua Iboe Crude Oil, with API Gravity of 35.8°, into Export Grade Naphtha produced in years 1 & 2 and Unleaded Gasoline from year 3, along with Diesel, Kerosene and Fuel Oil. Development of the Refinery Plant will cover the manufacture and installation of 6,000 BPD Crude Distillation Unit, 120,000 Barrels Capacity Tank Farm, Pipelines, Boiler and Blower Systems, Desalter and Cooling Tower Systems. Other Plants, Machinery, Equipment and Structures will include Flare and Air Compression Systems, Pre-Engineered Factory and Office Buildings, Loading Facility, 1.5 MW Electricity Power Plant and local Infrastructural Support Facilities that will be shipped in Modular Form for Assembly, Installation and Start-up at the Eket Project Site.
The Amakpe Refinery Project will provide consistent supply of Refined Petroleum Products to Nigeria and employ over 150 local Nigerian workers initially to be increased to approximately 250 direct employees in its second phase. The establishment of the Refinery will propel the development of new SMEs in the Country through Products Marketing and Distribution, Transportation, Construction, Supply Contracts, and Local Support Services. The establishment of the Refinery will further propel development of Downstream Petrochemical Industrial Projects that will source Raw Materials from the Amakpe Refinery Plant.
